At Cove Developments we believe that taking on a listed building can be a rewarding experience and we relish in being able to make these properties habitable again plus at the same time preserving the historical fabric of buildings.
Total renovation of Grade II listed thatched cottage
“We worked with Cove Developments on the total renovation of our Grade II listed thatched cottage from May to December 2016 and we can recommend Pete highly.
Throughout the course of the project Pete worked with professional care and dilegence, demonstrating his knowledge and experience of working on old and troubled buildings. He sympathetically managed all the challenges that such a listed building brings with regard to conservation and English Heritage. Pete was easy to work with, approachable and honest; he wasn’t daunted by the problems that arose during the course of the build and always found a practical solution to the issues.
Pete managed the sub-contractors well and had a good relationship with the Architect, Structural engineer and Quantity surveyor.
The project was completed on time and Pete worked with us to manage and deliver within our budget.”
Emergency repairs of estate cottage
15/16 East Lulworth, Lulworth Estate
This lovely listed cottage was sadly hit by a car, so this was an urgent complete rebuild of the gable end and the first 12 feet of roadside cob wall, including new footings.
This all had to be undertaken without interfering with the historic roof structure of the cottage.
Complete gut and refurbishment
18/19 East Lulworth, Lulworth Estate
This beautiful thatched cob cottage had been unlived in for nearly two decades. It needed to be completely gutted and refurbished, including reroofing, rebuild of some of the cob walls and cintec anchoring.
Complete Strip and Refurbishment of Grade II listed cob and lime cottage
32/33, Mount pleasant, Lulworth Estate, East Lulworth.
A Grade II listed property that underwent a complete strip and refurbishment, including under pinning.
All internal carpentry doors panelling etc were bespoke made by ourselves to replicate exactly what we replaced.
Substantial cob work was required to repair the walls before being lime plastered. All lath ceilings were replaced like for like.
This cottage hadn’t been lived in for 7 years. We were so proud to bring the cottage back to life and preserve one of the oldest cottages in East Lulworth.
“I have worked with Peter on several developments, predominantly on residential extensions to rural Estate cottages. He has been a pleasure to work with, and Clients have found him both accommodating and proactive. In terms of pricing, he has been very cost-effective, and he has worked hard to ensure that developments are brought in both on time and on budget.
Peter has also formed good relationships with Local Authority Planning and Building Control Officers, to ensure that works proceed on site to the relevant approvals, and that any changes or potential problems can be resolved with the minimum of disruption.
The standard of workmanship on his developments is excellent, and he has historically employed suitably qualified subcontractors. There have been very few issues at the end of the Defects Rectification Periods, and these issues have been made good promptly.
I am happy to have Cove Developments on my list of approved contractors, and I can also recommend them to be considered for future tendering of works.”
